Creating an Ani Laine garment is a six step process...
1. Firstly, the sheep are sheared.
2. The wool is then cleaned and washed.
3. The wool is combed using special wool combs.
4. The is wool is then spun using a traditional wooden spinning wheel and a lot of technique!
5. After the wool is spun, it is dyed by hand.
6. The beautifully coloured wool is then used to knit and crochet unique, handmade products.
Making a Difference
The biggest drive behind the start of Ani Laine, was to make a difference in the lives of the women in our area. The many work opportunities created, help empower women living on our farm as well as the talented local ladies with wonderful knitting abilities.
By learning new skills and techniques, the women can enhance the quality of their lives and the lives of their families.
"I love inspiring people, and if I can make a difference in one person's life,
then that is a success for me." – Sasha Azevedo
I would never have thought that marrying a farmer would change my life the way it did. Growing up against the foothills of Table Mountain, I have always had a strong passion for creating new things. Even during my student years in Stellenbosch, the inspiration from the ever present mountains and the autumn oak leaves filled my head with new ideas.
I fell in love and my inspiration came, unexpectedly, from the endless colours of the open Free State grass fields, the blue blue skies and the warm wool of the Merino sheep on our farm.
From my three children and wonderful husband I have learned that it is important to appreciate the simple things in life. Quality time with loved ones, A warm fire in winter, rain...Sometimes the simple things are the big things. From all my inspirations, "Ani Laine" was created combining all the things I love. People, creativity, simplicity and wool.
